A Stem Cell Derived Intestinal Model, Grown From Donor Tissue.
Altis is a stem cell company. We take intestinal stem cells straight from human donor tissue and rebuild the gut epithelial barrier in a dish, region by region.
We start with human stem cells, not a cell line
RepliGut® Systems is a stem cell derived intestinal model built from primary human tissue. We isolate intestinal stem cells directly from donor gut, in a region specific way, then expand them into a renewable biobank. Seeded onto a permeable membrane, those stem cells rebuild a polarized epithelial barrier, the same tissue that lines the human gut.
That single idea drives the whole platform. Because we start from real stem cells, the barrier we grow carries native human biology, and we can shape which cell types it contains. No immortalized tumor line, no animal surrogate, just human gut epithelium you can study directly.
How we build a stem cell derived intestinal model
The path runs from intact human tissue to a working barrier on your bench. We isolate the stem cells that sit at the base of the intestinal crypts, expand them, and plate them directly onto the transwell where they differentiate.
Human donor tissue
Stem cells sit at the base of every intestinal crypt.
Isolate crypt stem cells
We draw the stem cells out from the crypt base.
Expand into a biobank
Cells proliferate to fill many cryopreserved vials.
Seed and differentiate
Stem cells are seeded, then differentiate into functional epithelium.
The result is a human gut barrier you can dose, sample, and measure, ready in about a week. See it applied in RepliGut® Planar.

One platform, the native mix of gut cell types
Left to differentiate, our stem cells rebuild the epithelial barrier with the cell types found in the human gut. That means absorptive enterocytes, mucus producing goblet cells, and hormone secreting enteroendocrine cells, in physiologic ratios.
Because the platform is stem cell derived, we can also steer differentiation. By enriching one lineage, we build focused models for specific biology.
Tune the barrier toward the biology you need
The same stem cells that make a full barrier can be pushed toward one cell type. That is how two focused models come from the platform.
Enrich goblet cells: the mucus model
Drive goblet cell differentiation and the barrier builds a real mucus layer, for studying the gut mucus barrier and drug diffusion through it.
Explore the mucus modelEnrich enteroendocrine cells: the L-cell model
Enrich enteroendocrine L-cells and the barrier reports hormone signaling, for GLP-1 and gut hormone research and the gut brain axis.

Explore L-CellWhy the starting material matters
A model is only as human as the cells it comes from. Starting from primary human stem cells is what lets the barrier behave like real gut, and it is where regulators are steering preclinical science.
Real human biology
Primary donor stem cells, not an immortalized colon tumor line.
Region specific
Small intestine and colon regions, each isolated and biobanked apart.
Renewable supply
Expandable stem cells mean one donor can support studies for years.
Regulatory tailwind
Aligned with the FDA push toward human relevant New Approach Methodologies.
The FDA now actively advances New Approach Methodologies for preclinical testing.
